Gogglebox's George Gilbey charged with assault after attacking partner
Gogglebox star George Gilbey has been arrested by police after assaulting his partner at their home in Twickenham, London.
George, 34, was arrested on Friday, 18 March, for attacking his partner Gemma and causing criminal damage.
A Met Police statement names the reality TV star as having been charged with assault by beating and criminal damage over the weekend.
‘A man has been charged following an assault on Friday, 16 March. George Gilbey, 34, of Clacton, was charged with assault by beating and criminal damage on Saturday, 17 March.
‘He has been bailed to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 28 March.’
Police were called to his home on Friday after they received complaints that the couple had been arguing, giving concerned neighbours cause for concern. He was arrested the following day.
George, who has appeared in Channel 4’s popular telly-watching reality series Gogglebox, will appear in court later this month under the charges and has currently been released on bail.
Both mum Linda and step-dad Pete joined the show alongside George back in 2013. However, the family were subsequently dropped when George agreed to appear in Celebrity Big Brother – thereby breaking a clause in their agreement that says they cannot participate in any other reality television while under contract.
After he finished fourth in CBB, the family were eventually invited back to the show in 2016, whereby producers decided to loosen the reigns on the rules that prevents its stars from appearing elsewhere.
Despite his parents still being regulars on the programme, George has been away from the reality show in recent months after the birth of his son last summer, making but a few rare appearances here and there.
Yahoo Celebrity has reached out to George Gilbey for comment.
