Gogglebox's Louis Michael under fire for 'defending ISIS' in bizarre Twitter rant

As one of the original stars of Channel 4’s Gogglebox, 20-year-old Louis Michael has amassed a large social media following over his years in the limelight, with the star often using his position in the public eye to educate his 75,000 Twitter followers on political issues around the world.

However, the television star left his fans shocked last night when he went on a bizarre rant seemingly defending terrorist group ISIS.

Insisting that we should offer terrorists love and redemption, one of Louis’ stand out remarks was: “There is a beating heart in that chest regardless of the thoughts in their minds.”

Needless to say, his comments did not go down well with his followers, who tweeted the star their own thoughts on ISIS.

It all started late last night when Louis wrote: “It makes me physically sick how easily people forget that the people on the opposite side of a war are human beings too.

“They were born from mother’s just the same as you were. They live, think, breathe, eat, sleep, love, hate, laugh, and cry just the same.

“Take a moment to consider that the only reason you are so quick to dehumanise them is to make the thought of killing them easier.”

Clarifying that he was talking about terrorists and not innocent civilians caught up in war, one follower asked: “Are you seriously feeling sorry for terrorists?” only for a passionate Louis to respond: “YES I AM BECAUSE THEYRE NOT TERRORISTS THEYRE HUMAN BEINGS.”

A stunned Twitter user hit back: “Omg that is f*cking disgraceful. ISIS deserve to die. Every single one of them. And any other terrorist organisation.”

Louis retorted: “Violence begets violence. A cycle of hatred perpetuates anger and negativity and creates more conflict rather than resolution.”

Another follower wrote: “Thought of killing who? The people who enslave and rape women and children? Or is there another terrorist group I don’t know about?”

Louis hit back: “Focusing on their wrongdoings solves nothing. Focus on their potential for redemption, for the humanity inside of them.”

He later added: “Communication should never be ruled out as a means of conflict resolution.

“Hatred. Is. Not. The. Answer. Hatred. Solves. Nothing.”

Rounding up his controversial night, Louis seemingly hit back at his critics as he wrote: “Damn, there’s a lot of hatred still in the world.

“We’ve got to work on that people.”

Louis shot to fame at the age of 16 when he and his family signed up to the first series of Gogglebox back in 2013, with Louis – the youngest of his family – gaining popularity for his no-nonsense and ‘politically woke’ comments about TV shows and news events.

The Michael family previously sparked controversy when they were forced to take a break from the show in 2015 when patriarch Andrew stood as a UKIP candidate for the General Election.

When he failed to win the Hastings & Rye seat, the entire family returned to the Channel 4 show.
