Gogglebox star Stephen Webb has revealed that he asked for ex-husband Daniel Lustig's permission before appearing on Celebs Go Dating.

After confirming their divorce earlier this year, Stephen signed up to appear on the new series of the dating experiment – which begins tonight (August 19) at 9pm on E4.

In a new interview with The Mirror, Stephen explained that he wanted to ask for Daniel's "blessing" ahead of joining the series because they still live together.

"I did ask Daniel for his permission to do the show because we still live together, and if he had said, 'I'd prefer you not to do it', I wouldn't have done it, but he didn't," he said.

"He said, 'I think you should do it. I think it'd be really good for you'. And so, I had his blessing."

Stephen went on to reveal that he wanted to appear on Celebs Go Dating to get "advice" from the show's experts Paul C Brunson, Anna Williamson and Dr Tara.

"I did it because I'd come out of a long-term relationship, and I wanted to get some advice on dating again, because I haven't dated for so long," he explained. "And I thought, 'Why not?' I got offered it, and I thought, 'I think it'd be a good opportunity'."

The reality star also hinted at how the experience has "paid off", before admitting he regularly became "emotional" during his conversations with the experts.

Alongside a possible romance on the show, Stephen has also found a "new BFF" in co-star Ella Morgan. Ahead of the new series airing, the MAFS star recently took to Instagram to open up about their newfound friendship.

"I've got a new BFF for life, Mr Stephen, and we're gonna do loads more together. We just get on like a house on fire. We're the next Pete [Wicks] and Sam [Thompson]," she said.

This year's edition of Celebs Go Dating will feature some very well-known TV faces.

As well as Stephen and Ella, the cast also includes Love Island's Chris Taylor, ex-Coronation Street actor Helen Flanagan, singer and Hollyoaks star Jamelia, and Made in Chelsea's Tristan Phipps.

Celebs Go Dating premieres its new series on Monday, August 19 on E4.
