Once a proud part of Aberdeen's skyline, the iconic Shell building has been reduced to rubble after weeks of demolition works.

The former Shell offices have been left vacant since 2021 after the company relocated to the Silver Fin building on Union Street.

A landmark in Aberdeen - Shell had been based at the offices since 1973 before moving to the city centre, and last year plans moved forward to bring the offices down.

A report submitted to the council at the time concluded that the building's age and condition mean it is unlikely a new operator would take it on.

However, shortly after Shell's proposals were lodged, concerns over the carbon emissions of such a project were raised.

Despite this, demolition moved forward, and new pictures taken from above at the site of the former offices show the iconic building has been completely levelled.

All that remains of what was once a thriving oil and gas office building is piles of rubble. The sprawling Tullos campus contained a variety of brutalist buildings, all built between 1973 and 1992.

Of the four interlinked campuses, one remains, but the most notable building of the four has now gone entirely from the skyline.

Shell opened its first office in Union Street in 1965, before moving to the site off Wellington Road, marking 50 years of North Sea production in 2018.

Demolition began back in February, with documents stating it was expected the entire process could take up to 12 months to complete.

Simon Roddy, Shell UK's senior vice-president, previously told the Guardian: "For decades Tullos was a fantastic home for Shell in Aberdeen.

"After completing our move to the Silver Fin Building on Union Street, we are evaluating options for the future use of the Tullos site.

"Removal of the buildings will help unlock the potential of the site to make a positive contribution to the city."
