Police seized £13,000 worth of gold bars after raiding two South Cheshire homes. And bullion was found stashed inside a first aid box as cops and a dog handler descended on Crewe.

Meanwhile the force has confirmed a 24-year-old was arrested following the warrants on Badger Avenue. The operation saw officers target two properties on the street in the early hours of Wednesday (September 25).

During the sting officers say a police dog handler were deployed with 190 grams of gold bullion were found in a first aid box. Those bars were thought to be worth more than £13,000.

In addition officers seized cash, cannabis and 'a number of phones' from the two properties. Subsequently a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class B drugs (cannabis) and possession of criminal property.

He has since been released on conditional bail. PC Tyler Edwards said: "This joint effort between the Macclesfield and Crewe Proactive teams has been worth its weight in gold, as their swift work has taken another suspected drug dealer off our streets.

"Warrants such as those conducted on Badger Avenue form part of our ongoing efforts to tackle illegal drugs offences in Crewe and we hope this will provide reassurance to residents in the area that we are committed to dealing with this problem head-on."
