Gold chains snatched from necks of 3 people in terrifying spree of Derby city centre robberies
Derbyshire police are investigating a series of broad daylight robberies during which gold chains were snatched from people's necks. The three incidents took place around mid-day at two sites across the city; one in Babington Lane and two in Stanhope Street, Normanton.
The first incident occurred at around 1.40pm on Friday, September 6, when the victim, a woman in her 30s, was walking along Babington Lane. As she waited at some traffic lights to cross the road, a man approached her and snatched her gold necklace from her neck before running off.
The second robbery occurred at around 2.15pm on Sunday, September 8. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was walking along Stanhope Street when she was approached from behind by a man who then cut her gold chain from her neck and ran off.

A number of people in the area intervened and helped the women after both incidents and officers are keen to speak to them. The third incident occurred at around 12.20pm on Friday, September 20, when a man in his 50s was sitting in his car in a car park in Stanhope Street. He was approached by a man who spoke to him through the window before reaching in and ripping the gold chain from his neck.
Members of the public intervened and tried to apprehend the suspect but he ran off along Pear Tree Road. The suspect for all the offences is described as an Asian man and of a slim build.
He is described as wearing a dark jacket, grey jogging bottoms and an orange turban on September 6, a blue jacket or hoodie and grey jogging bottoms on September 8, and a beige hoodie, beige jogging bottoms and sandals on September 20.
