Golden Globes: Kevin Spacey replacement Christopher Plummer nominated

Christopher Plummer has been nominated for a Golden Globe after re-shooting a role played originally by Kevin Spacey.

Spacey was dropped from All The Money In The World by director Ridley Scott after a string of abuse accusations were made against him by several men.

The nod by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) - the body which nominates the Globes - has received a wave of support on social media.

"Biggest surprise story out of the Golden Globes nods: ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD landing multiple nods. With the nod for Christopher Plummer, it's gotta be the first time an actor was nominated for a role he landed & performed in span of one month," wrote movie blogger Erik Davis.

"I'm happy for Christopher Plummer - superb actor," said Entertainment Weekly's Rebecca Theodore.

The HFPA announced the nominees on Monday, which include the year's best in both television and film.

In the running for best drama is gay romance Call Me by Your Name, Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, Steven Spielberg's The Post, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape of Water.

Del Toro's fantasy romance film got the most nods in the motion picture category, beating favourite Darkest Hour, which got only one nod for his main star Gary Oldman.

Oscar favourites Get Out and Lady Bird were both nominated in the musical or comedy category.

In the best director category, there is a complete absence of female filmmakers, with both Greta Gerwig and Dee Rees left out of the race.

Among the British nominees are Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Judi Dench and Daniel Day Lewis for his last ever role as a couturier in Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread.

In television, HBO and Netflix lead the race with flagship shows like The Crown and Big Little Lies getting most of the attention.

Pop culture hit Stranger Things got only two nods, including best supporting actor for David Harbour, while both Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are running for the same prize for Big Little Lies.

The 75th annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on 7 January in Los Angeles, and will be hosted by US presenter Seth Meyers.
