Golden rule you should never break when losing weight – it makes you give up sooner
You could be making your weight loss journey harder for yourself by breaking one rule.
Losing weight isn't easy. It requires dedication and focus to stay on track and ensure you eat the right foods, get enough exercise, and are not overly tempted by sugary snacks and fat-filled dinners. One of the biggest reasons people give up on diets and healthy eating plans is a lack of willpower, and anyone who has tried losing weight knows that the mental battle can sometimes be a harder hurdle to overcome than the physical one.
But one woman has claimed there's one "golden rule" you should never break if you want to lose weight effectively, and it could help you push past some of the mental blocks that stop you from sticking to your diet.
In a video on TikTok, Bilan shared her top tips for "lazy girl" weight loss after she managed to shed an impressive number of pounds herself. She admitted she was "lazy" when it came to her fitness journey and didn't have the willpower to keep going until she found some words to "live by" that helped her rethink her goals.
She said: "I personally find the phrase 'making moves in silence' to be very cringe, however, when it comes to your weight loss journey you need to live and die by that phrase. Nobody should know that you are losing weight. As soon as you start telling people, they're going to start saying 'Well done', 'Congrats', they're going to start giving you compliments, they're going to start giving you your flowers.
"You're going to start getting the endorphins that you should be getting once you've lost the weight [when they compliment you]. Now you're getting all those feel-good endorphins before you actually start your weight loss journey, and you're just going to revert straight back to laziness. That was the story of my life for so many years."
Bilan also shared other tips that helped her shed the pounds, including swapping gym visits for walks. She said that many of us are intimidated by the gym, so it's often better to start slow with a simple walk after a meal to help you get used to being active before you decide to spend money on a gym membership.
She also advocated for weening yourself off of takeaways and junk food instead of trying to go "cold turkey". She explained that when she started dieting, she simply swapped her fried chicken takeaways for grilled chicken ones so that she could still enjoy "junk" food with less calories.
Commenters on the video thanked Bilan for her tips, with many saying they would be trying them out to help them stay on track. One person said: "Yes, literally don't tell anyone; people will start mentioning it to you once it's noticeable anyway. I logged my progress blog-style online but not a word in real life," another added: "These are actually really good tips, which is rare to find nowadays."
