Golfers filmed a fight between two alligators on the 18th hole of a golf course in South Carolina.

The group of golfers were playing at the Hilton Head golf course, in South Carolina, last week, when they encountered the fight.

The encounter took place on the course’s 18th hole and went on for two hours, according to the Daily Mail.

One of the players, Matthew Proffitt, told the Hilton Head Island Packet that it was the first time he had seen two alligators fighting. “We were pretty sure they wouldn’t mess with us, because they were locked in on each other,” he said.

“We see an alligator pretty much every day. But that is the first time we’ve seen anything like that.

“It was pretty nerve-wracking seeing that."

The club at the Hilton Head Lakes posted the video on its Facebook page and warned golfers to keep their eyes peeled for wildlife.

“Sudden death playoff on the 18 yesterday! Keep your eyes open out there, the course is full of wildlife!” the post read.

Alligators are common in the area. Two years ago Cassandra Cline was killed by an alligator on the same island, after she tried to save her dog from the animal.

Ms Cline was walking her dog next to a lagoon when the alligator emerged and attempted to attack her pet.

She tried to save her dog, but was then dragged into the water and killed by the alligator.
