Lord of the Rings is set to get a big budget prequel TV series AND a spin-off following Amazon picking up the rights for the franchise, but it still remains to be seen if the cast of the original films would also be willing to help revive the classic.

It's thought that the show cost the online retailer a whopping $200m for the license and even Sean Astin, who played Samwise Gamgee, thought it was inevitable LOTR would be rebooted at some stage.

Now Gollum actor Andy Serkis has revealed whether he'd like to be involved – given that the character crossed both The Hobbit and original trilogy, it's feasible that he could somehow appear in this new prequel series.

Sadly, we wouldn't suggest you get your hopes up of hearing Andy mutter "precious" again anytime soon, as he told the Hollywood Reporter: "I don't know if I'd want to go back into the Lord of the Rings realm.

"I feel like I've spent a large chunk of my life doing that. I'll say good luck and I think fresh eyes are probably a good thing."

The actor, who has helped pioneer motion-capture technology with his studio the Imaginarium Productions, is famous for playing another huge CGI character, Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Still, Andy maintained an appropriate level of dark side elusiveness while evading questions about who Snoke actually is. He explained: "I know who Snoke is, I know what's going on, but I have to keep it close to my chest because you don't want to spoil it for people. There are so many theories."

Although he did admit that some of those fan theories about the identity of Kylo Ren's master are "possibly" correct.

Andy is currently promoting computer game Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier which is set between the first and last movies in his rebooted trilogy, where you'll be able to choose between playing as apes or humans.

Speaking about the potential for more Apes movies, Serkis said: "That's the great thing about this technology, is that it allows you... as I have done, going from playing Caesar as a young infant to a mature adult, through the entirety of his life. So that basically means I could potentially play another character."

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is out on November 21 2017.
