'Be Good, Kitty': Colorado Man Has Tense Encounter With Mountain Lion

A Colorado man out scouting for elk in the San Juan National Forest, near Bayfield, on Sunday, October 18, was shocked when he realized a mountain lion had stalked to within 20 yards of him.

In a Facebook post, Steve Shively said he had stopped to change the memory cards in his trail cameras. When he stood, he “spotted this motionless mountain lion crouched down behind a rock ready to pounce.”

Shively told CBS Denver he pulled out his pistol and his phone. Video he recorded shows the mountain lion hiding behind a rock just yards away as Shively urges it to make tracks. The big cat slowly departs, turning and looking Shively’s way at every crunch of leaves.

Shively said the encounter "freaked me out especially after watching that video last week of the mountain lion chasing the jogger in Utah!” Credit: Steve Shively via Storyful
