Mil ovejas merinas y cien cabras retintas del rebaño trashumante se encuentran ya en la Comunidad de Madrid para transitar este domingo por la calle Mayor y el Paseo de Recoletos de Madrid, entre otras céntricas vías, en la XXVIII Fiesta de la Trashumancia. El rebaño trashumante, guiado por la Asociación Trashumancia y Naturaleza y la Asociación Concejo de la Mesta, regresa así a la región tras haber pasado este verano en los pastos del Norte de España. Los animales salieron el 25 de septiembre de Cervera de Pisuerga y Polentinos en la Cordillera Cantábrica Palentina. Han recorrido durante este mes de trashumancia el Cordel Cerverano que no se utilizaba desde hace más de medio siglo y la Cañada Real Leonesa Oriental para cruzar este sábado 16 de octubre el Parque Nacional de Guadarrama para ser recibidos ese día el Collado del Arcipreste por las autoridades municipales de Guadarrama. El rebaño está dirigido por Jesús Garzón, presidente de Trashumancia y Naturaleza y del Concejo de la Mesta, por Marity González, primera Mayorala del Concejo de la Mesta, por tres pastores y un hatero, defendido por 6 perros mastines, 4 careas vascos y 1 carea leones, que ayudan a los pastores en su manejo. La Comunidad de Madrid, con 3.700 kilómetros de vías pecuarias y una superficie de 12.600 hectáreas (el 3,3 por ciento de la región), "en su mayoría perfectamente señalizadas, constituye un extraordinario ejemplo de región densamente poblada y urbanizada que ha sabido respetar este patrimonio único de red de vías pecuarias", señalan los organizadores de esta fiesta que, además de apostar por la recuperación de esta forma de pastoreo como forma de proteger el patrimonio inmaterial y el medio ambiente, reclaman cada año el mantenimiento y la protección de las cañadas y vías pecuarias en España. Garzón ha indicado que el rebaño está colaborando con el proyecto 'Life' de la Universidad Autónoma y la Comunidad de Madrid, que tiene como objetivos "fundamentales" la conservación de la biodiversidad a través de las vías pecuarias.
