Donald Trump sparked memes and jokes when he looked directly at the Sun during the total solar eclipse, but it appears he was not the only one who ignored expert advice.

Despite warnings about not looking directly at the Sun without safety glasses, the phrase "my eyes hurt" peaked on Google shortly after the eclipse, The Next Web (TNW) reports.

Searches for the eclipse decreased as soon as the once-in-a-lifetime event was over, just as Google queries about having painful eyes rocketed.

However, the number of overall searches for the eclipse easily dwarfed the amount of searches for “my eyes hurt” on the day, TNW adds.

Before the event, the Royal Astronomical Society warned anyone hoping to catch the phenomenon not to look directly at the sun as it could cause eye damage.

President Trump, however, was roundly mocked for taking off his glasses to look at the eclipse.

“When your President thinks all news is fake so he doesn't listen and stares at a solar eclipse,” tweeted one.

“I like how everyone thinks Trump will get eye damage from staring into the eclipse when staring directly at Steve Bannon for 2 years did nothing,” joked another.
