The cast of The Goonies have reunited for Josh Gad’s new quarantine web series, Reunite Apart.

Gad, 39, hosted the main cast via video link, with Sean Astin (Mikey), Josh Brolin (Brand), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Kerri Green (Andy), Ke Huy Quan (Data) and Martha Plimpton (Stef) appearing.

A number of other special guests joined throughout the episode, which comes 35 years on from the release of the classic 1985 film, including Joe Pantoliano and Robert Davi, who played the Fratelli brothers, writer Chris Columbus, executive producer Steven Spielberg, director Richard Donner, and Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the song The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough for the film.

Astin opened the reunion by reenacting an iconic scene for an excited Gad.

The first episode of Gad’s show raised money for the Center for Disease Philanthropy to support their Covid-19 response fund.

As well as reenacting scenes from the film, the cast shared their favourite behind-the-scenes stories.

Spielberg also teased conversations with Columbus and Donner about a potential sequel.

“Chris, Dick and I, and Lauren (Shuler Donner), have had a lot of conversations about it,” he said.

“Every couple of years we come up with an idea but then it doesn’t hold water.”

The cast then participated in a singalong to The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough, before dedicating the episode to Goonies cast members who have died: John Matuszak, Anne Ramsey, Keith Wlaker, Mary Ellen Trainor and Lupe Ontiveros.

Spielberg and Donner are involved with an upcoming Fox TV pilot which will follow a group of kids who try to remake The Goonies.
