Gordon Ramsay says he has to try and keep his mother away from neighbour Stevie Wonder when she comes to visit him at his Los Angeles home.

The TV chef opened up on what it was like living next to the famous musician in a chat with Joe Wicks on the fitness instructor's new podcast. He explained how a year after he and his family moved in 2011, the Superstition hitmaker arrived to live in the house next to his.

Ramsay, 53, went on to say that he and Wonder weren't exactly enjoying neighbourly barbecues but they do exchange 'hellos', although his mum Helen is a big fan and continually determined to get a bit closer to the singing superstar.

"When mum comes over to LA, she said: 'Would you mind if I went and said hello to Stevie?'. I said: 'You are not going anyway near that front door. Don't you b****y dare'."

"She said: 'I just want to say hello to him, tell him I'm a big fan', I said: 'no Mum, I'll let him know that, don't’."

"And then mum said last time: 'Do you mind if I take him a sandwich?'. I said 'Don't you f***ing dare. What do you mean take him a sandwich?'. She said 'I thought I would take him cheddar cheese and Branston pickle' I said 'Mum, don't you dare'," he laughed.

The Hell's Kitchen star went on: "So she's desperate to meet him so I'm trying to keep my mum off Stevie Wonder but then when the music blares out and you can tell they're all by the pool and we are literally 12 inches away, our back gardens go onto one another."

While Ramsay splits his time between the US and the UK, over lockdown he's been residing at another home in Cornwall with his wife and children.

He attracted some controversy near the beginning of UK lockdown after he was spotted 25 miles from his Cornwall home by the coastguard and was subsequently issued a warning.
