Since being removed as Bayern Munich manager in September, Carlo Ancelotti has had several opportunities to return to the Premier League.

First the Everton job came up, but he evidently didn’t fancy it. Then West Ham became available, but for some strange reason he wasn’t interested in that either. Then, amazingly, he also appeared completely indifferent to the prospect of taking over at West Brom.

What’s this guy’s problem? We’ll tell you – he’s going to Chelsea.

And it turns out the one with the problem is Antonio Conte, who the Daily Record claims will be imminently sacked and replaced by his unemployed fellow Italian.

Ancelotti was fired by Roman Abramovich in 2011 – a year after leading the Blues to their only ever double – but he is reportedly in line for a sensational return to Stamford Bridge after holding “talks” with the cuddly oligarch.

It is now a case of “when not if” he will be appointed, but at the very latest the Record says the change will be made “before the start of next season”.

In the meantime, Ancelotti will reportedly move back to London, so he can make the most of his current freedom by watching lots of theatre and lurking near Conte’s house so that he can randomly pop up on street corners and frighten his rival.

Mourinho and Mkhitaryan bust-up

A man who has already been Chelsea manager twice, Jose Mourinho, is also in the news today because the Sun has apparently uncovered the source of his feud with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The two men allegedly had a “blazing row” while watching a video of Manchester United’s win against Brighton last month, after Mourinho highlighted the Armenian’s mistakes in the game “in front of the squad”.

Mkhitaryan “was angry and defended himself”, so now Mourinho is going to sell him. Nice.

Henrikh might not be the only one leaving Old Trafford though, with the Express reporting that Mourinho is prepared to sell any “unhappy players” in January “for the right price”. Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Marouane Fellaini are among those who could depart, while Mourinho is tipped in the Mirror to make a £27m move for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Meanwhile, the Express claims Neymar has “moved a step closer” to a move to Real Madrid after the Brazilian’s father, who is also called Neymar, had a meeting with Bernabeu chiefs about a potential £220m transfer.

The world’s most expensive player has reportedly told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to leave the club “by 2019” and that Real is his “ideal destination”.

Elsewhere, Barcelona’s latest offer for Neymar’s mate and Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho consists of “a smaller fee but greater add-ons” (Mirror), Reds and Tottenham target Federico Chiesa has been given a £53m price tag by his club Fiorentina (Talksport) and – last but not least – Spurs midfielder Mousa Dembele has found an actual treasure chest in the basement of a hotel he owns, containing £1m worth of porcelain, pottery and tableware from the 18th century (Mirror). First time a Tottenham player has got their hands on any silverware for a while.
