Gossip Girl is back and she is already watching us.
The HBO Max reboot of the iconic 2000s show just unveiled its first trailer, giving us a closer look at the new roster of New York elites we will be following.
But most importantly, it confirmed that Kristen Bell is returning to the show, reprising her role as the iconic narrator of the all-seeing Gossip Girl. And she has already started dishing out truths.
"You've gotten so comfortable thinking you're in control of your image, your actions, the narrative," she says in the trailer. "But you forgot one thing: I can see you."
"And before I'm through, I'll make sure you see you too," she continues before every other character chimes in in their own voice: "You know you love me."
Of course, she couldn't pass on the chance to remind us of her catchphrase: "Xoxo, gossip girl."
Hearing that line sure gave us chills as we can't wait for the new show to start and have such top-quality drama back on our screens.
Like the original CW series, the reboot will also centre on a group of wealthy teenagers, with the core cast comprised of nine characters played by Whitney Peak, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Jordan Alexander, Thomas Doherty, Eli Brown, Zión Moreno, Savannah Smith and Tavi Gevinson.
While not a straight-up continuation or reimagining of the events of the original drama, this new Gossip Girl is set in the same world. But don't expect Blake Lively, Leighton Meester or Penn Badgley to make an appearance.
Alexander recently expressed that the new show is "keeping an open mind, staying true to the essence of Gossip Girl but with a completely different take on it," especially focusing on dealing with more complex storylines and putting an emphasis on diversity.
Gossip Girl is set to release on HBO Max on July 8.
