Having recovered from his shock (but brilliant) departure from Game of Thrones, Aidan Gillen (AKA Littlefinger) has landed himself another controversial role.

Moving in a different direction, Aidan will portray controversial Irish comedian and satirist Dave Allen, who rose to fame across the '70s and '80s.

Dave Allen At Peace, a dramatisation of Allen's life and career, is set to air on BBC Two in the near future, Deadline reports.

Gillen will be joined by his Peaky Blinders co-worker Stephen Russell, who will be writing and producing the upcoming drama.

Covering Allen's long and eventful career, the programme is expected to explore the roots of his comedy – including the loss of close family members – and how he survived decades of backlash.

With complaints from the Roman Catholic Church, the IRA and Australian and Irish TV networks, Allen was certainly no stranger to courting controversy.

And there's also some added good news for any Game of Thrones fans watching out there, as one of Aidan's former co-stars is joining the drama, too.

Yes, Conleth Hill – Lord Varys – is also on board for the series, as well as Father Ted's Tommy Tiernan and Line of Duty's Joanne Crawford.

Although we're unlikely to see Lord Baelish in Thrones any time soon (unless Arya Stark finds a use for his face, of course), there might still be repercussions following his death.

Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth in the series, recently admitted that Sansa Stark may be in trouble with the knight after her order to kill Littlefinger.

"[Brienne] doesn't believe in dispatching a life unless it's absolutely necessary. Unless it's official," she explained. "Brienne is about a code of honour, a code of conduct, and she never kills anyone just for the sake of it.

"It's complex, though, because Brienne's made her oath to Catelyn Stark to protect the Stark girls."
