Actor Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, has confessed that he thinks it's the right time to conclude the series.

HBO confirmed back in 2017 that the eighth season would be the last one. And as the team hit the halfway mark of filming the final run, Peter Dinklage spoke out at the Sundance Film Festival revealing how he felt about it.

According to Metro, Dinklage remarked: "Storywise, not just for all our lives – it's the perfect time to end it. Sometimes shows stay on a little too long, the jumping-the-shark thing.

"It's bittersweet when it's time to move on with everything.

"It's always the sad part of our business, because you get pockets of great people for short amounts of time and then you have to move on and it's always heartbreaking."

Sophie Turner confirmed last year that the finale season still wouldn't air until 2019, following news from the HBO president Casey Bloys who suggested that although it's the shortest season, the producers are keen to make it as cinematic as possible.

Kit Harrington who plays Jon Snow also confirmed some details of the next season, saying that there will be six episodes in total – but he's not sure how long the running time will be.

Game of Thrones will return to HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK in 2019.
