Game of Thrones and character deaths go hand in hand, there's no getting away from it – unless you're John Bradley, who thinks his character will manage to evade death.
John, who plays Samwell Tarly, sounds pretty positive that Sam is going to make it through to the end of the series – and not just because he's holed up in a library somewhere.
In The Times' Walk the Dog podcast, John confessed he believes there's "a point" to Sam and his story, and we're more than inclined to agree with him.
"The thing about Sam," he said, "[is] if he's still around at this stage, you do suspect that there is gonna be a point to keeping him around."
And that point might be the fact that Sam potentially holds the key to defeating the White Walkers. Well, he does have Heartsbane to hand – y'know, the sword made from Valyrian steel.
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con last year, John said: "I think he absolutely could be [the key to defeating the White Walkers]. There's going to be something."
But of course, all of this is just guesswork because no-one really knows how Thrones will end; not even the cast are trusted with that information.
Revealing the level of secrecy surrounding the show, Emilia Clarke admitted last week: "No one knows anything. No one is told anything. It's all crazy. It's a secret from the cast.
"We generally can't be trusted. They pretty much have told us so."
You'll be able to find out what Sam's been up to in the citadel when the penultimate season of Game of Thrones returns to HBO on July 16 and to Sky Atlantic on July 17.
