Will & Grace is recasting Grace's father

Will & Grace is set to shake things up as Grace's dad Martin Adler will now be played by US comedian Robert Klein.

Star Debra Messing has announced on Instagram that the comic will take over the role in the revival series after original actor Alan Arkin was unable to return.

"BIG NEWS! The comic Legend Robert Klein is playing Grace's dad!" she wrote. "So happy because as any Mysteries of Laura fans know, Robert was my dad on MOL too!

"The Great Alan Arkin was not able to return as dad so we feel very lucky to have Robert. Blythe Danner is BACK as Will's mom!"

As Debra mentioned, Klein already has experience playing her father on comedy The Mysteries of Laura – so it looks like the role is in safe hands.

Arkin played Martin in 2005 Will & Grace episode 'It's a Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad World', where Grace begged Karen to accompany her to her father's birthday.

Danner previously played Will's mother Marilyn Truman in a number of episodes during the series' original run.

Another star set to return to the sitcom is Jennifer Lopez, who will be playing not one but TWO roles.

Alongside playing herself, the singer and actress will also take on her own Shades of Blue character Harlee Santos.

Will & Grace airs on Fridays at 10pm on Channel 5 in the UK. The show airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC in the US.
