Grantchester's Robson Green 'thought it was the end' as he breaks silence on '36 hours of hell'
Robson Green “thought it was the end” after enduring “36 hours of hell” when his fishing trip was caught up in a hurricane.
The Grantchester star is well known for his love of fishing, regularly filming documentaries about the hobby around the United Kingdom. And whenever he heads off to a new destination, Robson, 60, says he likes to get out and fish.
Robson admits he feels “most at home” standing in a river “casting a line”. But on one trip to Canada, he was left fearing the worst when his expedition was hit by extreme weather.

Speaking to The Times, Robson said: “My hairiest travel experience was when I went fishing for black cod off the Brooks peninsula in Canada and there was a hurricane. It was 36 hours of hell — I really thought it was the end.
“The vessel was 82ft — not big enough to turn around because it would have rolled over and there were waves the size of mountains, which I shall never forget. I’m not a religious man but I had a quiet word with the Almighty.”
Robson says his love of fishing has taught him a lot over the years. His hobby has allowed him to discover the history and culture of whichever country he has travelled to, he explains.
He also believes it allows him to experience “jaw-dropping scenery”. One trip to Alaska saw him encounter 48 humpback whales as well as orcas.
Robson has now spent over three decades on TV screens. He first rose to fame when he landed the role of hospital porter Jimmy Powell in Casualty in 1989.

Since then he has starred in hits such as ITV’s Wire in Blood, Soldier Soldier and Grantchester. He serves as a producer on Grantchester, as well as starring as DCI Geordie Keating.
Now in its ninth series, the show sees Keating teaming up with a local clergyman to solve crimes. And while co-lead Tom Brittney will follow the likes of James Norton by moving on from the show this series, Robson admits he still has the “most wonderful time” on set.
Grantchester series nine airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on ITV One and ITVX.
