Gravel pits searched in missing case of Claudia Lawrence

Police have begun searching Sand Hutton Gravel Pits in North Yorkshire as part of an investigation of the disappearance and suspected murder of local chef Claudia Lawrence. The location is about eight miles from Ms Lawrence’s home in York and family have reacted to the new search operation. She was last seen at around 3:05pm on March 18th 2009, walking towards her home. Later that evening she spoke both to her parents on the phone and they said she was in good spirits.The 35-year-old woman was reported missing on March 20th 2009 after failing to turn up for her 6am shift at the University of York a day earlier. North Yorkshire Police have questioned nine people in relation to Lawrence’s disappearance but not one has been charged. .
