Grayson Gallery event set for Friday

Jan. 24—GRAYSON — The Grayson Gallery and Art Center will present "Kicking Off the ARTS 2024" with an opening reception during the F!nal Fr!day Art Walk from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

"Despite the inclement weather, artists from four states and more than 20 cities will have nearly 50 pieces on display," gallery coordinator Dan Click said.

"Creatives have submitted a wide variety of works in various media and as a special category — for this month only — 'AI art' was accepted," he said, noting AI pieces will be for display only and not eligible for awards.

As usual, four awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m.; categories include People's Choice (by popular vote) GGAC Board choice; Brandon Click Memorial and the Pen Lady's Choice, each at $50 — or equivalent — as a purchase award. Works will be on display until mid-February.

Music will be performed by Sean Whiting and the Big Badness, which consists of singer/songwriter Whiting on guitar and vocals, drummer Sam Rogers, additional guitarists Tommy Oney and Austin Lewis with Trevor Litteral playing bass.

Refreshments will be provided by Catering by Laura.

The February exhibit's opening reception on Feb. 23 will be the gallery's annual event focused on peace, love and diversity via the arts with artwork reflecting the theme. A special performance will be by Doris A. Fields (aka "Lady D"), who will take the stage for her theatrical portrayal of the late Blues legend Bessie Smith.

March will again celebrate Women's History Month with the "Women in the Arts" event at the Grayson Gallery with the opening reception set for March 29.
