Great British Bake Off 2016: Bake Off champion ‘could earn millions’ after the series

It’s safe to say that we were crying into our cornflakes this morning, as the seventh series of the Great British Bake Off, and last-ever episode on the BBC, is set to reach its final tonight.

Aerospace engineer Andrew Smyth, garden designer Jane Beedle, and PE teacher Candice Brown are all in the running to be crowned this year’s Bake Off champion – but who will rise to the challenge?

Lipstick enthusiast Candice has been hotly tipped as the favourite to whisk away the GBBO crown, with William Hill giving odds of 2/5 for her victory, from which she could earn some serious dough.

With more than 16 million viewers expected to tune into the royal-themed finale, it has been suggested that Candice, as the “most marketable” finalist, could make up to £1 million, but there’s potential for all of them to cash in.

PR man Mark Borkowski told The Mirror: “This is a final straight from central casting. There is the wannabe, the geeky fellow and Mrs Middle England.”

He continued: “Candice is clearly most marketable finalist. She’s been busy building up her brand and image – with her lipstick and fashions.

“She has a real star quality, is clearly hungry for fame, and is an advertiser’s and marketer’s dream. Firms will fall over themselves to sign her up for books and promotions.”

With plenty of TV offers in the pipeline for the potential winner, he added that Candice could earn “well over a million pounds in her first year.”

As for the other finalists, Jane is currently pegged as Candice’s closest competition at 3/1, with Andrew lagging behind at 11/2 – but that doesn’t mean they won’t have a successful career after the series concludes.

Fan favourite Selasi Gbormittah, who was the ninth baker to leave the tent, has already announced plans to release a book and open his own bakery in west London.

Speaking about his future, he told the Radio Times: “I do love banking but I’m hoping to open a bakery somewhere in west London… My immediate adventure however, is a motorbike/baking tour across Europe, which I’m currently planning. I hope to share all the recipes I learn in a book.”

Ahhh, the sweet smell of success.
