The Great British Bake Off spoilers follow.

The Great British Bake Off has aired its latest episode, with John Mincher becoming the third contestant to be eliminated.

Tuesday’s (October 8) episode saw the remaining 10 bakers return to the tent for their latest challenge, with the group having to impress Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their bread-making skills.

After three closely fought rounds – Signature, Technical and Showstopper – it was time for the judges to make their decision, with host Noel Fielding informing John that they would be progressing no further.

"It's fine – it was expected," said a tearful John, who was Star Baker in the first week, following his exit. "It was just a bad week. It's just how it is. Because everybody is so talented, if you drop the ball it's your time to go.

"To be the first Star Baker of the series, and then have a really good week with biscuits, the tears are tears of pride," he added, with the baker being consoled by his co-stars after his exit.

John – a 37-year-old directorate support manager from Willenhall – becomes the third contestant to leave the series following Hazel Vaughan and Jeff, who both left the tent during the biscuits-themed episode last week (October 1).

Elsewhere in the episode, co-host Alison Hammond announced that Dylan Bachelet, a retail worker from Buckinghamshire, was the Star Baker for the week, with the 20-year-old later expressing his joy.

"When they said it, the first thing that went through my head was: 'I can't believe I'm here'" he explained. "It's just crazy. I'm really happy I got [Star Baker] during Bread Week because I love bread, and because Paul knows bread."

The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Bake Off: An Extra Slice both air on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
