Great British Bake Off contestant Ruby Bhogal has revealed the winner of the show on Twitter after being duped by a fake account.

Bhogal, who is in this year’s semi-final on Tuesday, admitted she was “very happy” with the winner as she chatted to a Twitter user she believed was Sandi Toksvig.

The baker was tricked into revealing the classified information by a man who set up a fake account before direct messaging her pretending to be the presenter.

The prankster told The Sun: “It’s actually pretty easy to do really. You just make a fake profile of one of their friends and then they follow you.

“You then change your name and message them and they have no clue,” he added. The publication say the account has now been suspended and has not shared the messages.

Standard Online has contacted Channel 4 for comment.

Thankfully, no information was made public unlike Prue Leith’s blunder last year when she let slip the winner’s name ahead of time owing to a time difference slip-up.

Leith, who took the place of Mary Berry when the show moved to Channel 4, accidentally congratulated victorious Sophie Faldo on the morning of the final.

Devastated Leith, who was in Bhutan at the time, blamed the time difference for the mistake and said she was in “too much of a state to talk about it” .

The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesday October 23 at 8pm on Channel 4.
