Great British Bake Off Fans Are Loving New Presenter Matt Lucas
Great British Bake Off is finally back to provide us with some much-needed normality and of course plenty of delicious-looking baked goods.
The new series kicked off on Channel 4 last night (22 September) with 12 brand new contestants striving to be named the ultimate Star Baker and fans were beyond pleased to see the show back on our screens to give us some familiar comfort.
Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith were back alongside presenter Noel Fielding in the familiar tent, while they were also joined by a new face in the shape of co-host Matt Lucas.
Matt's introduction was a talking point immediately as he acted in a briefing sketch looking suspiciously like Boris Johnson, which was very timely considering that the show aired immediately after a televised briefing by the Prime Minister.
But it wasn't just Matt's psychic abilities that viewers were impressed by, as his presenting style and humour were praised by fans:
Can tell already that @RealMattLucas is going to be soooo good on #GBBO 😂😂😂😂😂 #yeahbutnobut #borisjohnson

Great start to the bake off with @RealMattLucas Just what we needed after another announcement! Great example of making the role your own, not what your predecessor did! #GBBO

Another change that the show has made this year is a (hopefully) temporary one – the contestants in the 2020 series all lived together in a 'bubble' while the show was being produced, to ensure that the show could be made as safely as possible.
Viewers were delighted that the contestants and crew had gone the extra mile to make the show happen this year and many were also left wishing they could live in a baking bubble too:
Have they got all the #GBBO contestants living together in one place like Fame Academy?? Love that

Wow they’ve lived together through the whole thing? Prepare for some emotional vote offs 😭😭#GBBO

The fact that #gbbo created a production bubble to allow filming to go ahead because we simply couldn’t live without it is just the most British thing ever... and I for one love it! 🍰 🧁 😋 #LetThemEatCake
