Yahoo News Great British Bake Off finalist Sophie Faldo 'is being investigated for benefits fraud'
Sophie Faldo, one of the finalists in this year’s Great British Bake Off, is being investigated for benefits fraud, it has been reported.
The 33-year-old baker is said to be claiming a single person’s living allowance despite living with her boyfriend, David Slattery, in Surrey, with an investigator spotting Sophie’s living situation on the official Bake Off website.

It is believed that Sophie lives in a two-bedroom flat with her partner, who is a chef, with benefits’ claimants receiving less money if they are living as a couple – especially if the other person works.
Speaking to The Sun, a source revealed: “She is being investigated for benefit fraud. She has been saying her partner doesn’t live with her – but he does. They have been caught out.”
Another insider added that Sophie applied for “rent support” when she became unemployed and was living with three other girls in a house-share, however, she moved when she tried to move her boyfriend in – something that she was not authorised to do.

Sophie’s official Bake Off bio states: “Sophie grew up in Suffolk and now lives in Surrey with her boyfriend David and cat Loki.”
The TV hopeful is a former army officer and currently training to be a stuntwoman.
The Sun report that Sophie refused to comment on the scandal when contacted, with a Bake Off spokesman saying in a statement: “Sophie has recently declared a change in her circumstances to the DWP.

“A meeting to reassess her situation, scheduled for last Friday, was postponed by her local job centre until next week. Any suggestion of benefit fraud relating to Sophie is categorically untrue.”
Sophie will appear in tomorrow night’s Bake Off finale alongside fellow finalists Steven Carter-Bailey and Kate Lyon.
