Makers of The Great British Bake Off have denied claims that the show is ‘fixed’, after it emerged that one of its contestants has already appeared on another cooking show.

26-year-old Manon Lagreve, who won the series’ first Star Baker accolade last night, competed in a show little known BBC show called The Box, hosted by James Martin.

The Sun newspaper revealed the news, accusing the programme of being ‘unfair’.

However, a spokesperson for the show has denied that Lagreve’s appearance on another TV show will have any bearing on the result.

“We are fully aware that Manon appeared in one episode of The Box and this does not affect her eligibility to take part in The Great British Bake Off,” the spokesperson said.

Lagreve impressed judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood with her biscuit-making skills in the first show of the new series.

The software project manager came third in the technical challenge, and made a 3D biscuit ‘selfie’ for her showstopper.

It’s the second series of the show to be broadcast on Channel 4 since its makers took it away from the BBC.
