The Great British Bake Off tent is as much a part of the veteran baking show as Paul Hollywood’s goatee beard.

But next week, for the series final, it will be abandoned for the first time ever, according to reports.

In a twist – the precise details of which remain unknown thus far – the technical challenge will reportedly take place elsewhere, and not under canvas.

A source on the show told The Daily Mirror: “You won’t need ovens or hobs for this challenge.

“It should be simple, but not everything goes to plan.”

Last night, this year’s finalists were revealed as Ruby, Rahul and Kim-Joy, as fan favourite Briony was sent home following a tense and tearful episode.

Host Sandi Toksvig broke as she announced the news, and viewers did too.

But the show must go on, and the final finds three first rate bakers going head to head.

Judge Hollywood added: “I actually think it’s going to be a fantastic final next week. We have got three great bakers, each one of them has this very artistic flair, if they bring their A game, that is going to be the best final ever, I promise you.”

It airs on Tuesday night on Channel 4.
