The champion of The Great British Bake Off Georgie Grasso has expressed her gratitude for the "incredible" response she received after opening up about her ADHD diagnosis. The 34 year old, from Carmarthenshire, made history as the first Welsh winner of the Channel 4 show on Tuesday night.

Georgie, a paediatric nurse by profession, revealed that fellow ADHD sufferers reached out to her after she opened up about her diagnosis on the hit show. They told her they had "felt seen".

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, she admitted the stuggles she faces with the condition, saying: "It is still one of those topics that people don't know about. Especially with adult women because for a lot of us it goes undiagnosed for so long and it does completely take over your life."

She shared that it had caused problems for her on the show, saying: "It got me a bit in the semi finals because I couldn't read the instructions. That's what I was struggling with and I thought I was done.

"But in the final... I had to make a plan and just stick to it, and that's why with the technical challenge and the showstopper I just flew through it."

According to the NHS, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a behavioural condition where individuals may appear restless, struggle with concentration and act impulsively. Symptoms often emerge in childhood, with most diagnoses occurring in children under 12 years old.

Additional issues such as sleep and anxiety disorders can also arise. Adults who suspect they may have undiagnosed ADHD are encouraged to consult their GP.

The final saw Christiaan de Vries, Dylan Bachelet battle against Georgie Grasso for victory. After her win, Georgie said: "This is mad! I have won it, I can't believe it. This is just incredible. I can't believe that I have won The Great British Bake Off. It just means everything, I have always been so self doubtful. I have got this and that wrong with me and think I can't do it, and you make excuses. For once I thought I am just going to go for it and put my everything into it. I am just so proud of myself because I have proved I can do it, and now I am here today the Winner!"
