  • The Great British Baking Show host Sandi Toksvig is leaving after three years.

  • Fans are crushed over the news of her exit, which she announced in January 2020.

Sandi Toksvig has bid us her last, “On your marks, get set, bake.”

The host on The Great British Baking Show (known as The Great British Bake Off in England) has announced that she’s officially leaving the show after three years. She confirmed the news on Twitter, with a statement that is as sweet as fans have come to expect from stars on the cooking series.

“When stepping down from a job it is quite common for people to say they are doing so in order to spend more time with their family,” she wrote. “Unusually I am departing from the Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work. As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all consuming show.”

She continued to praise her co-host, Noel Fielding, and the judges, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. “Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television.”

Sandi is also convinced this won’t affect the quality of the beloved competition. “Bake Off is a wonderful programme which has already proved it can happily withstand a change of hosting personnel. The reason for that, of course, is that the true stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish everyone well.”

Viewers at home could not disagree more, though, as many took to social media to express their sadness that Sandi is leaving. One person even said “I’ll never eat again.” Noel also wrote a note to his friend that read, “I feel like Tom without Jerry!”
