'Great step forward' Huddersfield Giants confirm signing of Liam Sutcliffe
Huddersfield Giants have confirmed the signing of former Hull FC centre Liam Sutcliffe. As first reported by Hull Live back in June, the 29-year-old will make the move back to West Yorkshire ahead of 2025, cutting short his time with the Black and Whites.
Sutcliffe joined Hull on a three-year deal ahead of the 2023 season. However, he was granted a release from his third and final year with the club, who have since signed Zak Hardaker and Ed Chamberlain in the centre positions.
A product of the Leeds Rhinos system, Sutcliffe, meanwhile, will join former Hull teammates Adam Swift and Andre Savelio under new head coach Luke Robinson. A former Grand Final and Challenge Cup winner, he has over 270 appearances to his name, scoring over 80 tries.
Speaking on his move, Sutcliffe said: "I'm really excited to have signed at Huddersfield. Once I heard there was some interest, I knew it was a move I definitely wanted to explore, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.
"I’ve spoken to a few of the boys, and they speak really highly of Robbo and how much they enjoy it, so I can’t wait to start training as soon as possible and get stuck into pre-season. I’m looking forward to learning more about his ideas and way of playing. There's some great players in the team with a lot of potential, so to be competing every week and aiming for a play-off spot would be a great step forward."
Robinson added: "Liam is an excellent addition to our backline, he has a superb scoring record at Super League level and has played in intense games such as Grand Finals and Challenge Cup finals, winning both, which shows the experience he possesses.
"He also has a quality kicking game that can be utilised if ever needed, and he is also a prolific goal kicker. We're looking forward to welcoming him into the group and will add tries to our team."
