The Greatest Dancer is set to return for a second series on BBC One, it's officially been confirmed.

The new BBC One dancing show wrapped-up its first series this evening (February 23) and crowned its inaugural winner with Ellie Fergusson.

The show also announced during the broadcast that it will be coming back to screens in 2020 for series 2.

"We wanted a big joyful show that celebrated extraordinary and memorable dancers of all ages and from all backgrounds and that’s exactly what we got," said Kate Phillips, Controller BBC Entertainment.

"Everyone worked so hard on the show and we can’t wait to go again and see who will manage to open our magnificent mirror!"

The series has seen a number of individuals and groups compete to be crowned the Greatest Dancer, under the guidance of dance captains Cheryl, Strictly Come Dancing's Oti Mabuse and former Glee star Matthew Morrison.

Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo presented the first series together, though it's unclear as of yet whether or not the hosts and captains will all be back for the second series.

The Greatest Dancer has been drawing-in an average of over 5 million viewers over the series and has been going head-to-head with ITV's The Voice UK. But while the singing competition may have been coming out on top, there actually hasn't been a huge difference in numbers between the two shows on the whole.

The Greatest Dancer airs on BBC One.
