A Greek island usually brimming with tourists is lying "empty" as people desert it for winter. Santorini is reportedly struggling for footfall after being swamped by UK tourists and holidaymakers all summer, sparking anger from locals, it has been claimed.

November is classed as Santorini's low season, and fewer tourists visit the island at this time of year. If you're willing to get up early to check out some of the popular attractions and sights, you might even get it entirely to yourself.

"While this is all the better for your pocket, be aware that some hotels and guest houses close for the winter months," warns travel brand Rough Guides. "You should also expect a reduction in ferry services."

A travel guide online explains of the European Union holiday hotspot: "The weather during this time of the year is mild, with average temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F). While it may be cooler than the summer months, November still offers pleasant and comfortable weather for exploring the island."

"It is important to note that this month is part of the off-peak season in Santorini, and there is a chance of occasional rain showers. However, these showers are usually short-lived, and the island quickly returns to its sunny state," it adds.

It adds: "November in Santorini can have fluctuating temperatures throughout the day. Dress in layers to adapt to the changing weather. Start with a lightweight base layer, add a long-sleeved shirt or blouse, and top it off with a cardigan or jacket.

"Opt for comfortable footwear suitable for walking and exploring. Sneakers or closed-toe shoes are ideal for navigating the island’s uneven streets and pathways. Evenings in November tend to be cooler, so bringing a light jacket or sweater is advisable. This will provide warmth and comfort during outdoor activities or strolls along the coast."
