Green Man festival 2018: Everything you need to know

This weekend it's all about kicking back and watching some big bands in the stunning setting of the Black Mountains, deep in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. At Green Man, I'm going to get rustic not ravey that's the plan, at least.

This festival is all about getting stuck into in a hearty weekend of live music, good food, beer and cider.

The crowd is warm, relaxed and friendly, with lots of families, folk music fans and food lovers. As festivals go, you can't get more laid back than this.

The headliners are strong as usual. Green Man is in its 16th year and knows what it's doing when it comes to booking acts. Fleet Foxes headline on Saturday — I hope they play their enchanting track Blue Ridge Mountains, which would be so fitting in the immense hilly setting. The War on Drugs headline on Sunday and don't miss Grizzly Bear who play before them. Once the main stage closes, I'll be stepping through a hidden hole into The Walled Garden to dance until the early hours.

On arrival at the festival, the best thing is to join the Settlers, a group of 3000 or so who are staying on site for a whole week to fully experience what the mountain passage has to throw at them. The weather is notoriously Welsh; I look forward to hearing their stories.

Food wise, Le Bao will be there with its delicious buns and dumplings. Made of Dough does the most deliciously light and crispy pizza, while Ghandi's Flip Flop for a great veggie curry.

As the festival season comes to a close, Green Man is the perfect place to warm your soul and prepare yourself for the coming autumn.
