Scotland Yard has launched a murder probe and made three arrests after a man who was beaten up in the street died in hospital.

Jozef Boci, 30, suffered serious head injuries after he was hit repeatedly with blunt objects by at least three men in Greenwich, south-east London last Saturday.

Police said Mr Boci, who was from Albania but living in Catford, was attacked in Greenwich High Road after an argument broke out between two groups of men at the North Pole pub in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 2.15am and the area remained cordoned off by police the following day.

Mr Boci was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and died on Friday, just under a week after the attack.

His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem was scheduled to take place on Saturday.

Three men, aged 20, 21 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody at a south London police station where they remained.

Detective Inspector John Massey, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "This was a brutal and cowardly attack.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or any earlier altercation in the North Pole Public House in the early hours of Saturday 17 February to come forward."
