Greg Davies and Helena Bonham Carter lead cast for The Cleaner

BBC One has confirmed that their new series The Cleaner is set for release in 2021 and will feature Taskmaster star Greg Davies and The Crown star Helena Bonham Carter in leading roles.

Davies will also write the series which follows the life of Paul 'Wicky' Wickstead, who works as a crime scene cleaner, he is responsible for the clean-up of a crime scene after the police have gathered their evidence.

The Cleaner is based on a long-running German comedy series, called Der Tatortreiniger (which means Crime Scene Cleaner), it was created by Ingrid Lausund.

Speaking about the show, Davies said: "I'm thrilled that this remarkable collection of actors has agreed to appear next to me on screen. Scrubbing up blood in a hazmat suit in front of them will be a pleasure."

In addition to Bonham Carter, other cast members include David Mitchell, Stephanie Cole, Donald Sumpter, Shobu Kapoor, Ruth Madeley, Layton Williams, Zita Sattar, Georgie Glen, Bill Skinner and Esmonde Cole.

The Cleaner will see Wicky meet people from all walks of life as he carries out his role and cleans up crime scenes. As he works, Wicky comes across victim's relatives, employers, neighbours and acquaintances and even murders occasionally. His talkative and sociable personality means that at times, he can do more talking than cleaning.

There is currently no set release date for The Cleaner.
