Greggs comes up Trumps with own version of popular card game in time for Christmas
Geordie favourite Greggs certainly has no trouble cooking up imaginative new ways to grab the attention and its latest is an idea which it reckons would make a perfect stocking filler this Christmas.
The bakery chain has come up with its own version of Top Trumps, the themed card game, which is set to further fan the endless discussions about which is the best Greggs bake. It revealed news of its limited-edition game with a hard-to-miss House of Cards built on Newcastle Quayside which, created from giant versions of the cards, stands 13ft high.
And to celebrate the release of the game - which will go on sale in packs at 10am this Friday, November 29, with a link posted on its social media channels - there is a special treat in store for local Greggs fans this Wednesday, November 27 when 500 free packs will be up for grabs on the Quayside along with lots of freshly-baked complimentary goodies.

Its new version of Top Trumps, released just in time for Christmas, will feature Greggs menu staples such as bakes, doughnuts, pizza and sandwiches. There will be 30 play cards, each scored across five categories including Fame, Mouthfuls, Socials Score and Flake Factor and including an overall Top Trumps rating.
The goal of Top Trumps, which has been around for more than 50 years and has covered themes including Disney, Marvel and Hello Kitty, is to win the most rounds by having the highest-scoring card in each round. It might come as no surprise to learn that the winning item crowned Top Trump with a perfect score of 100 is the Sausage Roll. Its popular vegan counterpart gets a look-in too in the pack.
The 500 free packs will be given out on Wednesday between 10am and 5pm on a first-come, first-served basis. There also will be five rare gold cards available to celebrate the seasonal Festive Bake and North East favourites such as the Cheese & Onion Stottie and Peach Melba as well as - down south - the Tottenham Cake and Scotland’s Haggis Pie.
Then, from Friday, Greggs Top Trumps will be on sale online, priced £9, with up to 10,000 packs available while stocks last and rare cards may be found within those too. Greggs latest partnership with Top Trumps on the game idea follows on from other inspired collaborations including the clothing range with Primark, with its sell-out Christmas jumpers, and then Greggs Champagne Bar which recently launched inside Fenwick in Newcastle.
