Greggs is doing a smashing job of making its products available for vegans at the minute. In January, the bakery franchise launched a hugely successful vegan steak bake, and now we’ve been treated to vegan hot cross buns. And just in time for Easter too!

The buns are suitable for vegans because they don’t contain any milk, eggs or butter.

The hot cross buns come in packs of four, and cost £1. They’re perfect for slicing, toasting and covering in your favourite vegan chocolate spread.

Greggs first teased a new vegan menu back in December.

It shared a video on its social media, which simply said: “Believe the hype. Greggs x Vegan. Dropping January 2020.”

This isn’t flake news...

Then soon after, our good pal the vegan steak bake arrived.

We did think the next vegan treat to wing its way to us from Greggs would be a vegan ‘chicken bake’, so we’re surprised to see the vegan hot cross bun. Nicely surprised, I might add.

In January, Greggs’ CEO Roger Whiteside spoke about the prospect of a vegan chicken bake happening.

Roger said: “[Vegan] chicken is a way forward. I have seen some good products out there.”

But he also admitted that making vegan versions of brands’ signature dishes comes with a number of challenges “technically and operationally.”

So watch this space, I guess.
