Grenfell inquiry panel member cries reading out damning report on 2017 fire
An architect on the Grenfell inquiry panel cried as she delivered the long-awaited report into the 2017 blaze on Wednesday 4 September.
The devastating Grenfell Tower fire which killed 72 people was the result of “decades of failure” by government and the construction industry to act on the dangers of flammable materials on high-rise buildings, the report found.
A seven-volume and near-1,700 page final report of the inquiry into the disaster laid out in damning detail how those in positions of responsibility had not heeded or acted on warnings from earlier fires.
“The losses so many people have suffered, and my involvement in this process, has left a mark on me as a person and as a professional,” architect Thouria Istephan said, battling tears.
