Grenfell Tower tribute: Music stars unite for Simon Cowell-backed charity single

A week ago today, firefighters were tackling a horrendous blaze that ripped through almost all 24 storeys of Grenfell Tower in west London.

Local residents, council workers, media, celebrities, politicians and even the Queen have since visited the site where at least 79 people died and where many more were injured in the inferno.

One such local resident, Simon Cowell, said he was left “heartbroken” after watching news coverage of the devastating blaze and felt compelled to donate £100,000 to the survivors. But that’s not all.

This week, he also arranged for a flock of celebrities to record Simon & Garfunkel hit ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and a stream of stars were spotted heading into the studio to contribute to the emotional track, the proceeds of which will go to The London Community Foundation, raising funds for the victims and survivors of the event.

#ArtistsForGrenfell is now trending on Twitter, and the video for the poignant song will air on ITV at 7:30pm tonight before Coronation Street.
