The following article contains spoilers for Grey's Anatomy season 14.

Grey's Anatomy is bringing Kim Raver back to the cast full-time for season 15, in a widely-expected move after last week's finale.

Raver returned to the ABC medical drama for two separate guest arcs as Dr Teddy Altman this past season, both of which revolved around Teddy reconnecting with former flame Owen (Kevin McKidd) as his marriage to Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) crumbled.

Teddy turned up once again in last week's season 14 finale just in time to be named Grey Sloan's interim chief of surgery (following Dr Bailey's sabbatical), and reveal that she was pregnant.

"I am thrilled to reprise the role of Dr. Teddy Altman as a regular," Raver announced on Monday (May 21). "Returning to Shondaland with the incredibly talented Krista Vernoff, Ellen Pompeo, and the amazing cast is heavenly.

"I have a special place in my heart for Teddy and feel very lucky to have the opportunity to continue her story."

Kim Raver originally joined Grey's Anatomy in its sixth season, and left two years later when Teddy took a job running a military hospital in Germany.

During her time away from Grey's, Kim reprised another of her most famed roles as Audrey Raines in 24: Live Another Day and was a recurring player on both Ray Donovan and Designated Survivor.

Grey's is in the midst of shaking up its cast, following the departures of both Jessica Capshaw (Dr. Arizona Robbins) and Sarah Drew (Dr. April Kepner) in a bittersweet finale last week.

Grey's Anatomy will return in the autumn on ABC. Sky Living airs the series in the UK.
