Grey's Anatomy says goodbye to Arizona and April

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Grey's Anatomy season 14.

Grey's Anatomy has said goodbye to beloved cast members Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew in an emotional season 14 finale.

The ABC medical drama's season-ender 'All of Me' picked up on the heels of last week's shocking penultimate instalment, in which April Kepner's (Drew) life hung in the balance after a horrific car crash.

It was only through this wreck that her colleagues at Grey-Sloan learned that she'd reignited a relationship with ex-fiancé Matthew (Justin Bruening) in secret months earlier.

While fans (and April's colleagues) feared the worst for much of last week's episode, April pulled through after Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) repeatedly used shockers to revive her in the ER.

Meanwhile, Arizona (Capshaw) was approached last week by a familiar face, Dr. Nicole Herman (Geena Davis), with an offer to start her own Women's Health Centre anywhere in the country - which came in handy since she was already planning to move Sofia back home to New York.

All of this led up to Thursday's finale opening up at the wedding of Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), which got off to a rousing start with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) failing to convince Jo to take an attending position at Grey-Sloan and stay in town.

Meanwhile, an earlier wedding at the chapel erupted into chaos when the mother of the bride suffered a heart, thus keeping Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) occupied while Alex and Jo ended up trapped in a shed minutes before their own nuptials.

Luckily, the happy couple were rescued from an almost certain death by Meredith, but only after she'd been kissed by an over-eager Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti) in a doomed wedding toast. By episode's end, Alex and Jo luckily tied the knot.

In the middle of it all, there was a brief moment where April and Arizona got a chance to share a hug - which didn't go unnoticed by fans or the cast.

April also managed to avoid death for the second week in a row, getting married to Matthew instead when he made the most romantic proposal ever.

"I loved who you were five years ago," Matthew told April. "And I love you even more today. So, I don't want to waste any more time. April, will you marry me?"

There was even a brief moment when Jackson (Jesse Williams) got to share with April how genuinely happy he was about her marriage.

While Sara Ramirez confirmed earlier in the day on Thursday that she would not be physically appearing in the finale for Jessica Capshaw's departure, her character Callie Torres did make a brief appearance... via text.

During the nuptials, Arizona got a message from Callie that encouragingly read: "I can't wait to see you."

Oh, and Teddy's pregnant...

Those fans surprised by this turn of events can't say they weren't warned, as Camilla Luddington (aka Jo Wilson) teased earlier on Thursday that the finale would have "a lot of twists and turns"- while even Ellen Pompeo had warned it would be "devastating" to watch.

That said, at least the twists and turns were mostly upbeat for once...
