Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo has teased she could leave the show before it ends.
Speaking to Dax Shepard in the latest episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, the Meredith Grey actress opened up about the downside to playing the same character for such a long period of time.
She's now about to enter her 17th season of the show and admitted that watching herself age "from 33 to 50 now on screen [is] not so fun".
She added: "You really see it because I'm in the same clothes, I'm in the same character. So the way I see myself ageing – that's a motherf**ker."
That's partly the reason she might want to walk away from the medical drama before it officially ends, to ensure she bows out before things become stale.
"I do not want to be the grapes dying on the vine," she told Shepard. "Certainly, to dip out sooner rather than later at this point, having done what we've done, to leave while the show is still on top is definitely a goal.
"I'm not trying to stay on the show forever. No way. The truth is, if I get too aggravated and I'm no longer grateful there, I should not be there."
ABC is yet to renew Grey's Anatomy beyond its 17th season – which is when Pompeo's contract expires – but her co-stars Kevin McKidd, Camilla Luddington and Kim Raver have all signed new deals that would potentially keep them on for a further two seasons.
