Grey's Anatomy's biggest scandal exposed in upcoming true crime documentary
The new docuseries Anatomy of Lies is set to expose the astonishing truth behind one of America's most beloved TV shows, Grey's Anatomy.
Despite the ongoing success of the medical drama, which sees Ellen Pompeo leading as Meredith Grey and is gearing up for its 21st season release in mere days, the ABC series was shaken by scandal a few years back.
Elisabeth Finch, a writer and executive producer on the show, found herself at the centre of controversy after allegations surfaced that she fabricated her medical history, including a cancer diagnosis.
Finch, whose writing credits include True Blood, No Ordinary Family, and The Vampire Diaries, reportedly used her claimed health struggles as inspiration for the 2019 Grey's Anatomy episode titled Silent All These Years, even making a cameo appearance as a nurse.
However, in March 2022, Finch was suspended pending an HR investigation into her claims and later confessed in a December 2022 Ankler article that she had never suffered from cancer.
Peacock's upcoming three-part series promises to delve into Elisabeth's "rise and fall" within the television industry. According to the synopsis, her "jaw-dropping lies fooled Hollywood for years, and became fodder for many high-profile episodes of Grey's".
"Her final mark was trauma survivor Jennifer Beyer, who entrusted Finch with her deepest secrets.
"But as Beyer uncovers the web of lies that deceived Hollywood for years, she faces a daunting challenge: Can she reclaim the narrative from a convincing storyteller who showed no signs of stopping?"
The forthcoming documentary is set to deliver riveting interviews and unveil the shocking untold story that rocked Hollywood to its core.

Elisabeth convinced the producers with harrowing stories of a rare form of bone cancer, undergoing a kidney removal, and having an abortion while on chemotherapy, but it was all a fabrication.
Vanity Fair blew open her case in a bombshell article in 2022, leading Disney to promptly begin an inquiry.
Disney's internal investigation kicked into gear after she allegedly refused to hand over medical records confirming her claims, resulting in administrative leave followed by her exit from Grey's Anatomy.
In a revealing interview with The Ankler, she confessed, "I told a lie when I was 34 years old and it was the biggest mistake of my life," and explained how the deception grew uncontrollably: "It just got bigger and bigger and bigger and got buried deeper and deeper inside me."
UK audiences will have access to Peacock via Sky TV or a Now Entertainment membership, therefore making this tell-all documentary available in the UK upon its global release.
Anatomy of Lies is scheduled to premiere on Peacock on Tuesday, October 15.
