Grieving mum upset at 'rollercoaster of potholes' on way to daughter's grave
A grieving mum claims she has to pass through a 'rollercoaster of potholes' to visit her daughter's grave. She also claims Bootle Cemetery is so unkempt that overhanging trees block passage ways and the grass grows to head height.
The mum has visited her daughter's grave every day since she passed away in 1997. Her daily pilgrimage is one of the ways in which she stays close to her daughter and regularly brings flowers so people can see her daughter is still loved and cared for.
The woman said she's not usually one to make a 'fuss' but can't help but feel the poor maintenance of the cemetery is disrespectful to all visitors and believes it is for these reasons the neglect hits people so hard. Although she has the utmost respect for the individual gardeners there is still concern at the overall management and general maintenance of the cemetery. She said: "I don't know who the council contracts the work to but it is very slap dash.

"People come here in a vulnerable state and the least they can expect is that the resting place of their family members and friends is kept respectable.
"I drive in here every day and the potholes have gotten so bad and bumpy that's like riding a rollercoaster. I just don't understand how they can so badly neglect a place of rest."
In last few months, the LDRS has reported on two other incidents at Bootle Cemetery involving a Janet Doran who claimed she was "completely heartbroken" after visiting her nan's resting place in April after the grave was left in a "disgraceful" condition after some grass cutting.
Similarly in June, Colin Chad complained the cemetery was being treated like a 'dumping ground' after discovering damage done to his friend's graveside mementos. Both Colin and Janet also complained to Sefton Council about the maintenance of the cemetery.
The Bootle mum added: "There are so many potholes which makes drivers go on the grass to avoid them and then they are near the graves.
"Then there's the trees which are totally ignored by the gardeners and they are now overhanging so far that I have to clamber onto the verge to get past."
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “We are aware of some defects to the carriageway, along with overhanging trees, at Bootle Cemetery.
"Our teams are working hard to rectify these issues and have already undertaken the necessary steps to appoint a contractor for these works as soon as possible."
