Grim scenes of scorched fields and burned-out buildings after fire rips through London suburb

These were the grim scenes of scorched fields and burned-out buildings the morning after a wildfire raged though Dagenham, east London on the hottest day of the year.

Fields were left blackened as firefighters dampened down the last of the coals after the fire destroyed 14 homes and 25 cars in the Farm Close area.

In all, more than 130 people were evacuated and two were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after more than 100 firefighters tackled the blaze.
