Gsoc investigating after homeless man found dead in Tipperary

Gsoc is investigating after the body of a homeless man was found in Co Tipperary yesterday evening.

The man in his early 60s was found slumped on a bench in Keynon Street, Nenagh at around 7:30pm.

The man’s body was transferred to University Hospital Limerick.

Gardaí have ruled out foul play and family members have been contacted.

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating as officers had given him a lift into Nenagh earlier in the day.

Gardaí report that they had observed him lying on the ground at Ballygraigue Road, Nenagh during the afternoon and gave him a lift to the Homeless Shelter on Kenyon Street.

In a statement Gsoc said, “The law states that there must be an investigation by an independent agency when there has been death or serious harm to a person and there has been contact with a garda prior to this.”

Gsoc investigators travelled to Nenagh this morning and the post-mortem was due to take place today.
